 FEED MY SHEEP

Pastor Henry Mooney is the Spiritual Leader of Believers In Christ Ministries & Believers And Community Development. He came to Christ after a long life of crime and unbelief. At the young age of 22, Pastor Mooney was arrested and sent to prison for burglary and drugs for the first time. After his release, he continued to use drugs. It didn’t matter what kind of drugs just as long as it got him high. In addition, he continued to do all of the things associated with maintaining his “high” (robbing and stealing). He even survived being shot in the head and seriously stabbed in the arm without realizing that God was preparing him for a better life. He continued that in and out of prison life-style until his third arrest; that’s when he finally found the Lord. In 1991, he was going through a very “down period” and recalls how a fellow inmate convinced him that through faith, change could come, and the void that he felt within would disappear and be replaced with meaning and hope. After their talk, he began studying the bible and became fascinated with the Word of God; and it was then that Henry was saved. Pastor Mooney enjoys telling the story of how he came to Christ and is willing to discuss the Word of God with anyone. Pastor Mooney was ordained as a minister in 1996, devotes his life to the Lord, and welcomes everyone to join the churches activities and services. He strongly believes that “It takes one to know one and show them way.” Pastor Mooney is a living example that “God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good thing” (2 COR 9:8 NKJV). He has a loving Wife Detra, and is the father of four wonderful children, Kendra, Frances, Nathan, and Sheldon.

Mrs. Detra Mooney is the proud wife of Pastor Mooney. She admits that she was very unhappy with life, because she was destroying herself by using crack cocaine, and couldn’t find a way out. In 1995, she was arrested for aggravated assault and realized that God was with her even then, when the judge gave her deferred adjudication instead of the 20-year maximum penalty. In 1997, her daughter’s father said that she was not stable and threatened to take their daughter away from her. It was then that she committed herself to the Joshua Assembly for rehabilitation. Believing that this would be a place for her to get help, since she knew the Pastor; and she went there in the hopes of changing her life. While there, Detra read the bible passage that said, “Seek me first, and everything else will be added unto you” (MATT 6:33).

That verse touched her heart, gave her a desire to change and the capacity to love. She recalls her days of being abusive and angry with everyone she encountered, and was overwhelmed that God replaced her bitterness with love and kindness. Mrs. Mooney spends most of her time raising her children, helping her husband spread the Word of God, and helping in the community. She is very happy enjoying the blessings of a loving family, stability, and peace. Mrs. Mooney firmly believes, “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire, He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand, and I will not be moved” (Ps 40:2 NM).

Our Vision

Our vision is to help the homeless, and those on drugs (crack cocaine, alcohol, downers, uppers, and heroin) and those in gangs. These individuals are human beings just like us! This is the command that Jesus gave Peter in John 21:15-17: FEED MY SHEEP. We have this mandate on our lives as well. Each person is someone’s mother, father, sister, brother, wife, husband and child. We are not talking about helping all of them, but helping those who want to get off drugs. We want those who stand out on the street holding signs saying, “I’ll work for food.”

These individuals need a chance to have a job and money to help them start over again with a new life. We see them on our street corners all over the world. We need, as a people, to come together and help feed and clothe these individuals. We, as human beings are complete with body, mind, and spirit.

To me the Bible means: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth

We all need instruction in life, and we all need help, so let all of us love and help these individuals in need. I am talking about all races and nationalities of human beings. So let us come together and love one another, and help these individuals to recover from their struggles. There is hope for everyone in need. Again, help us, and others to improve the standard of our community.

Thank you and May the Lord bless you and keep you !
